First week at uni reflection...

Inevitably, on the morning of Monday the 21st of September, I was feeling extremely anxious and nervous. I was mainly concerned that I would get lost and would end up late on my first day.. I luckily bumped into a couple of girls trying to find the same room, so together we managed to find it.
After a short presentation of do's and dont's, we were split into smaller groups where I immediately felt more comfortable and soon made friends and exchanged instagram usernames with a group of girls. That afternoon we were able to discuss our mood boards and film reviews. This was such a good way to bond with the people in our class as we got to know them both personally and artistically. I loved hearing about everyone's passions, inspirations and aspirations. This was one of my favourite moments from the week as there was such a positive and buzzing atmosphere. All of my previous apprehension went out the window and I was suddenly so excited for the rest of the week!

On wednesday we were lucky enough to have a lecture by Illamasqua artists Spob O'brien and Helen rocher. Oh. My. God. I just sat there in complete awe for the whole hour. Not only are they extremely talented, they are just so unbelievably cool!! They gave us so many tips about the industry and showed us several unusual techniques in the demo. It was amazing to see Spob recreate a look that she had designed for a recent fashion show. I loved hearing the thought process from when she was given the brief from the designer right up until the final outcome at the show. Hearing about all of their personal experiences in the industry, alongside working with illamasqua was incredible. One of the things Spob said that has stuck in my mind ever since was 'personality is everything'. I thought that was so refreshing. Especially coming from someone who must be constantly surrounded by people who consider image to be everything. I Left uni that day feeling so inspired!

On Thursday we had a demonstration by Gemma from Charles Fox. Oh that was such a treat. She was so laid back and happily answered any questions we asked. She did a really glamorous look on the model and talked us through all the products she was using. I was extremely grateful for this as they are the products we have in our kits! It was great to see a professional using them- she had endless inside tips as she had worked for the company for over 10 years. As well as talking to us about the products, she also had loads of tips about body language- which i found so valuable as it's something i hadn't thought about.I left the workshop feeling so positive and even more excited to get to know my kit properly!
