Bleached brows trend

I have been looking at ways that Elizabethan make up trends have influenced us today and something that stood out to me was the ‘no eyebrow trend’. I remember when it first became popular back in 2014- everyone was so shocked when bleached brows appeared on the runway as the ‘power brow’ had been so popular thanks to Cara Delevingne.

An article from the mail online back in 2014 talks about how this isn’t the first time the trend has come around. It claims that ‘eliminating brows gives women a blank canvas’ which fits perfectly with the 90s grunge trend. This trend was actually worn back in the 90s by Karen Elson and Kristen McMenamy on the cover of vogue. This is an example of how make-up artists and fashion designers are constantly taking inspiration from old fashion shoots and eras. No doubt this trend will come in again in the future. Pat McGrath said herself that this is not the first time bleached brows have been popular- she was quoted saying ‘No brows has been a beauty option since the beginning of time. Think of those looming images of Queen Elizabeth’.

It may not have become a craze that everyone was a fan of, but celebrities such as Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and lady Gaga all wanted to be a part of it. Kendall Jenner had hers bleached for a Givenchy add, and Alexander sent models down the runway with no brows for his 2014 autumn winter show.
The craze may have died down for now, but bleached brows continue to pop up in a variety of make- up looks and on the runway.
