The perfect eye

In this make up lesson we learnt about different eye shapes and how to compliment them.

We started off by looking at different eye shapes and then  deciding which type our partners had. I was partnered with Georgia who had even, deep set eyes. I found this quite easy to work with as her eyes are a similar shape to mine, so next time I need to work with someone who has a different eye shape! Georgia has brown eyes so I chose to use a pale base and then a deep purple through the crease and really blended it until it became a very soft lilac and then layered more on the corner of the eye to create more dimension. I did this as we were only allowed to use two colours, but by blending the purple differently in different areas it looked as if I had used three.

For the lip I chose a subtle pink/ peach colour and only dabbed a small amount on georgia's lips as obviously, the eyes were the main focus. I started by adding a small amount and then got georgia to press her lips together. I assessed the colour at this point and then added more until I was happy with the colour and coverage. I used a square brush to apply. applying it an an angle with a square brush enabled me to create a 'cupids bow' shape.

Overall, I was really pleased with this look, but I wish i had a bit more time to perfect it!! However, working to time limits is something i need to get used to.

 Health and safety:

  • Before I do anything, I make sure that my brushes have been sufficiently cleaned with  Isopropyl alcohol to prevent bacteria spreading.
  • I covered my work station with couch roll to ensure that I had a clean space to put all my products and tools onto.
  •   I covered my model with a gown so that no product would fall  onto her clothing.
  •   Before starting the makeup I asked my model if she had any skin diseases or medical conditions that i should be aware of. I also asked if she was wearing contact lenses, as some products will irritate them.
  •  I washed my hands with soap and water to prevent bacteria transferring.
  • I decanted any product onto the back of my clean hand, to prevent double dipping and again preventing any bacteria from the models face being transferred into my make up.
