Vogue Russia

I came across these images recently and found them really inspiring. This is an Elizabethan inspired shoot done by vogue russia. In fashion, designers often take trends from previous ears and rework them in their own way. I love the way they have played around with a range of textures and colours to create classic elizabethan shapes. I often see Elizabethan influences in fashion- i feel that she is constantly used as a muse as she was not only the original fashion icon, but she was so incredibly strong and prided herself on being independent.

The clothes and accessories are very clearly influenced by the elizabethan era, with big ruffs and embelished dresses. The clothes are so extravagant that they become the main focal point, you can still see that the make up is Elizabethan inspired. They start with a pale base and bleached brows, but added a gold/bronze liquid around the eyes. Designers will usually take old influences and exaggerate them to give more of a contemporary fashion feel. For example, they have gone for the classic lipstain look- but have done a really deep purple with a clear gloss over the top.

I love this shoot because it is so dark and moody and actually gave me some inspiration for my lady in waiting, Elizabeth Brydges.
