I am completely in love with this beautiful Elizabethan
inspired look from Alexander Mcqueen’s 2013 autumn/winter show. The make up is
very subtle underneath the amazing head piece. The headpiece is clearly
supposed to be the focal point, but you can still see the transclucent skin and
rouge lips through it.
The headpiece was incredible, completely covered in pearls,
which were often used to decorate hair, clothes or used as accessories on their
own.
It is clear that that this was inspired by this famous
portrait of Elizabeth. I thought that the headpiece was so quirky and creative,
but I can totally see how the portrait inspired it. They created their own ‘new
Elizabethan’ by looking at this portrait and assessing the clothing and
accessories and then re-working them in their own way.
I found this really inspiring as it is the first cotemporary Elizabethan image that I have seen and immediately been able to recognise the direct influences.
